According to the City of Elgin website, you can spend the Fourth of July at the local parade beginning at 9:00am at Slade and Douglas. This patriotic event will last roughly two hours, and the theme for this year is “Go for the Gold.” Whether you are sitting along the route for the day or simply stopping by for a moment, this event is fun for both adults and kids.
For those who love beer and wine, the Downtown Elgin Pub Crawl is held on September 23 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. However, be sure to get a designated driver, then come downtown to enjoy some of the best drinks around. This is a great way to support local businesses and to see what’s new in the area.
Though not until October 29 to November 12, the Chicago Humanities Festival is one event you don’t want to miss. Special guests include renowned feminist theorist Gloria Steinem, TV host Trevor Noah, author Yaa Gyasi, architect Marshall Brown, and New York Times writer Thomas Friedman.
