Crossovers keep getting bigger in the United States—and we don’t mean in terms of size—and since the Outlander and Outlander Sport are already Mitsubishi’s best-selling vehicles, the automaker figured it might as well throw a new one into the mix.
CEO Osamu Masuko told Automotive News that Mitsubishi would present a new CUV that would go on sale in the United States and Europe. Production wouldn’t occur until about two years from now, but we already know that it’ll slot right between the aforementioned Outlander and Outlander Sport and compete with crossovers like the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson.
But there’s something else, too. “The Outlander is growing in size, while the Outlander Sport is getting smaller, so it opens a space for the new SUV,” said Masuko. This would ensure the new Mitsubishi crossover doesn’t also compete with its own siblings in the lineup.
It’s a long way off for now, but we look forward to the new crossover at Biggers Mitsubishi!
