First Phase of the Jane Addams Tollway Construction Project Complete

No one likes traffic. Even when its traffic due to construction that will improve the area in the long run and make traveling easier on our vehicles, it can be hard to see the forest from the trees. Many of you, like us here at Biggers Mitsubishi, have likely gotten caught in traffic on the Jane Addams Tollway from Rockford to O’Hare International Airport at some point over the past two years. Good news: as of December 16th, the widening project for that section of the Tollway is finally complete!

The construction was part of a $2.5 billion project named the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway Rebuilding and Widening project. After two years, this 37-mile stretch of the Tollway boasts three new lanes and the speed limit is back to 65 mph on I-90 between the Elgin Toll Plaza and I-39 in Rockford.

“We thank our customers for their patience and support during the two years of construction to rebuild and widen the 37 miles from Rockford to Elgin,” said Kristi Lafleur, who serves as the executive director for the Illinois Tollway.

As we enjoy the newly paved roadway, Jane Addams Tollway construction crews will move to the second phase of the Rebuilding and Widening project, which will take place on I-90 between Elgin and the Tri-State Tollway. Phase two is expected to be complete by the end of 2016.
